Drip irrigation

Drip irrigation, also known as trickle irrigation or microirrigation is a low-pressure irrigation method that allows water to seep out at a relatively slow rate. Drip tape is the usual delivery method, flexible plastic tubing with emitters, usually set 12" apart. The tape can be set on the soil surface, or buried.

Drip tape can be extremely efficient in water usage. By comparison, sprinklers can lose 70% of water in the air, to wind and evaporation, where drip delivers directly to the soil.

Subsurface drip irrigation (SDI) uses permanently or temporarily buried dripperline or drip tape located at or below the plant roots.
