Starting a backyard veggie garden
From Tiny Farm Wiki
Getting lots of requests for garden-starting info, so...a work in progress:
It's easy to start a vegetable garden, from scratch and with no previous experience. After all, it's not you who will be doing the growing, it's the plants! All you have to do is set up reasonable growing conditions, and let them do their thing... Still, you do have to know some stuff. Here is the minimum basic info to get started. Once you're rolling along, everything will make sense!
1. Garden map
Measure your plot and draw a map with the dimensions. Make it big enough so you'll have room to write in your veggie locations.
2. Decide what to grow
Make a list of the veggies and herbs you're planning to grow. To narrow down your choices, try these:
- Do you want to start some plants indoors, and transplant them later to the garden? Or do you only want to seed directly in the garden?
- List what you really want to grow?
3. Seed starting indoors
4. Direct seeding and transplanting
5. Cultivation
6. Harvest
